The adventure starts with you and your Wizard traveling to an unknown location. On your return trip to your castle, you come across a party of bandits who have captured an elderly wizard. You have to help the wizard escape before your castle is destroyed and you are forced to give up the Wizardspellbook. Horror Castle is a fun piece of gambling and a good way to spend a bit of time. The Wizard was originally meant to be played in a windowed environment, similar to Infocom's BASIC.

The windowed experience of The Wizard's Castle gave it a feeling of a traditional adventure with its hand-drawn graphics, but the windowed system didn't make it an easy platform game for many people. The windowed window on a PC also meant that you could only view the graphics if the screen was on top of your head. But the windowless game would not last long, as in 1983 Infocom released a version of The Wizard's Castle that incorporated this system.
