Poker is one of the most popular card games worldwide, known even by those who aren't such great fans of casino games. You must have seen this game being played in movies and TV series or heard about huge poker tournaments around the planet.

After modern technology took the world by storm, poker got its online counterpart. However, this hasn’t affected the game's popularity in any way. What is more, it has become even easier for online poker to reach the most distant places on Earth and become universally accepted.

While, back in the day, we only had basic poker, today, there are many different variations of this game. In essence, the game’s primary goal has remained the same, but there are some differences between poker titles you should be aware of.

Texas Hold’em

Texas Hold’em is the first association whenever the word ‘poker’ is mentioned. Thanks to the World Series of Poker, the free version of the game on Facebook, and many other platforms, Texas Hold’em is the best-known poker variation around the planet.

When playing this game, each player initially gets two cards they should keep hidden from others. After everyone places a bet, the dealer (or the RNG software) has to put five more community cards on the table. This is done in series 3-1-1, and in between, players also need to make their moves.

Once all five cards are on the table, and the betting is over, all players try to make the strongest five-card hand out of the cards they hold and community cards. Ultimately, the player holding the strongest hand wins.

Omaha

If you’re up for trying something a little bit different, maybe Omaha can offer the perfect amount of thrill to your online poker sessions. Instead of only two initial cards, each player gets four of them when playing Omaha, while the number of community cards remains five.

However, to make the strongest 5-card hand, players can only use two out of four cards they have in their hands. While some players say that Omaha is trickier than Texas Hold’em, it actually offers better chances to get the winning hand, as you have two additional cards to work with.

Seven-Card Stud

Once you master Texas Hold’em and Omaha, the next fish to fry is Seven-Card Stud. This variation differs from the previous two in terms of community cards. Namely, there are no mutual community cards dealt on the table. Instead, each player gets their own set of seven cards, out of which the best five are selected in the end.

First, a player gets two cards face down, and the third face up. The player with the lowest face-up card starts the betting round. After that, there are four more dealing rounds during which each player gets three more cards face up and the last one face down. Also, there’s a round of betting in between each round.

Finally, players can check all seven cards, choose the best 5-card combination, and discard the remaining two, after which they show their hand to other players. As usual, the winning player is the one with the strongest hand.
