The goal of this article is to explain how these rankings compare to your favorite site based on the numbers. A couple weeks ago, we ran a piece profiling FanDuel's "picks-in-play" algorithm, which used a combination of player data and FanDuel's own projections to estimate how certain PPR games were likely to go in your favor. The algorithm is fairly simple. For more specific PADU, we used the stats for games where you win 75 percent of your games – which is the maximum allowed by FanDuel.
To generate a percentage for each game, we created a list of potential games along a similar scale to the previous one. We then looked at the game-by-game ratings for each specific game to calculate how close you really are to winning that type of bet every week. We also generated rankings for every player in a particular game based on which game he was expected to win.
For example, if our algorithm had predicted that FanDuel would pick Ryan Seacrest over Peyton Manning every week, it would have calculated his overall PPR score of 14.4. Because FanDuel and DraftKings offer the same exact game scores, we also generated a list of picks-in-play for each individual game (with all of the games at the top of the PPR scale). This process is also referred to as randomization and is the method we use to produce picks-in-play for our overall season model.
